South Korea has the densest 5G network on Earth. Seoul Metro is fully covered. Busan, Daegu, Incheon — strong 5G citywide. Jeju Island — 4G across the entire island. An eSIM is the easy answer; just watch for KakaoMap quirks.

How much data?

5-day Seoul trip: 3-5 GB. Heavy Maps + KakaoMap + Naver translation.
10-day Korea loop (Seoul + Busan + Jeju): 8-12 GB.
2-week trip with several KTX hops: 15-20 GB.

The KakaoMap workaround

KakaoMap (the Korean Google Maps) is more accurate than Google Maps for Korean addresses, public transit times, and bus routes. The catch: some eSIM providers route roaming traffic through a foreign IP block, which makes KakaoMap return blank tiles or "service unavailable" errors.

Workaround: switch to KT or SK Telecom roaming partners (most travel eSIMs let you pick in settings → mobile data). Or use Naver Maps instead — Naver tends to whitelist more roaming traffic.

Coverage you should expect

Seoul (Myeongdong, Gangnam, Hongdae, Itaewon): 5G everywhere, 500+ Mbps typical.
Seoul Metro: Full 5G in every station and tunnel.
KTX bullet train: Continuous 5G between Seoul → Busan.
Busan (Haeundae, Gwangalli, downtown): 5G ubiquitous.
Jeju Island: 4G across the whole island. Hallasan summit — weaker but still LTE near the peak.
DMZ tours: 4G at Imjingak; signal drops as you approach the JSA. Phones must be powered down at the JSA itself anyway.

Korea-only vs Asia regional
